Welcome
Dear Friends,
The 2011-2012 concert season is about to conclude with our annual “Baroque By Candlelight” performance, the capstone of our 40th anniversary season. This program entices the listener to journey back to the early 18th century, and experience the sounds that were much “in the air” at that time, and all in the warm glow of candlelit Plymouth Congregational Church, itself a luxurious acoustic and visual environment. Our concert features music of Purcell and Handel (each a composer to English royalty) a suite from the prolific Telemann, and the fifth Brandenburg Concerto of Bach, a work also known as the first real “concerto” for harpsichord. Kansas City Symphony harpsichordist Rebecca Bell will join the LCO to play the demanding and virtuoso solo part. Please plan to join us on March 25th in celebrating 40 years of great orchestral music in Lawrence.
With best wishes,
Steven McDonald, music director
